With any part of life, there are scars to display what our bodies have been through and what they are capable of. This thought is necessarily the first when a woman find out she is pregnant, but is probably an after thought nonetheless. There are many factors in which not only a woman, but a family must occur to meet the needs of a new baby; whether it’s monetary or mental-readiness. The needs a woman must naturally comply to are those in which the baby needs to grow, and with that, comes the stretching of the abdomen to have a baby successfully. Those cursed words: stretch marks.
Stretch marks during pregnancy are small, pinkish to purplish lines that are due to the stretching of the dermis, which is located in the middle layer of the skin. Sometimes, the dermis has the capability to “bounce-back” the skin to it’s shape pre-baby. But without superbly healthy skin cells, and depending on the caloric intake of a pregnant female, most are left with stretch marks, with effect 75%-90% of those women. Not all stretch marks are permanent, and not necessarily all stretch marks are caused during pregnancy. Stretch marks can occur in an individual who avidly builds muscle by working out, to a sloth-like individual that has a plentiful supple of fat cells which causes their skin to stretch. Also teen-agers during puberty can gain stretch marks from the abundant and consistent supply of hormones.
Aside from the seemingly daunting consequences of the human growth in various forms, there are means, especially for the pregnant, to rid their bodies of the stretch marks during pregnancy. At any local drugstore, there are many products available to help the onset of stretch marks that mostly occur during the 3rd trimester. These products contain ingredients that help the skin produce collagen-elastin, which builds the skins tissue in order for it to retain healthy function. But for those seeking more extreme measures in scar removal, there are laser treatments which women who have the financial means can get. These treatments take several visits, and use pulsated light to go over the surface of the scarring. This method of removal can give women up to 75% improvement of their stretch marks during pregnancy.
- Stretch marks are not permanent for all women, and they vary from woman to woman.
Stretch marks during pregnancy are certainly not the highlight for a pregnant woman, but they are a part of the process for most. But it’s the parts of life that take wear and tear on our bodies; showing others how we can stand up to the demands that are thrown our way. The human body is capable of many things, and for some women it’s process of birth. The pain, the stretch marks, the scars; we are able of creating life, and that is a beautiful thing.
